Supplemental Questions
  1. Briefly describe your research and the progress you have made on it over the last calendar year. Include any notable achievements (e.g., presentations, publications) and your future research and career plans.
  2. Optional: To be considered for the Stella Fritzell Award, please describe your experience and interest in working in environmental or natural resource governmental affairs.
  3. Optional: To be considered for the Joe K. Neel Scholarship, please describe how your work relates to limnology or aquatic invertebrate zoology and how the award dollars will be used to achieve and enhance your research. Upload a proposal not to exceed 2 single-spaced page (including budget and justification). A letter of support from the student’s graduate advisor sent to the Chair of APSAC by the deadline applications are due in Scholarship Central is required for a complete Joe K. Neel application. An M.S. student will be eligible for up to two awards during their graduate career, while a Ph.D. student will be eligible for up to three awards.
  4. Optional: The Esther Wadsworth Hall Wheeler Award is presented to a current graduate student to support their research project. To be considered for the Esther Wadsworth Hall Wheeler Award, upload a current CV and a summary of your research project, not to exceed 2 single-spaced pages, that includes the following: project title, student’s name, current biology degree program (MS or PhD), advisor’s name, project description (background information, research question, research plan), budget and justification (general budget categories may include supplies, travel to research sites, or other justified research-related expenses). The award cannot be used as salary for the awardee. However, it can be used to help support an undergraduate research assistant. Any graduate student who does not submit their application through Scholarship Central may still be considered for a Wheeler Award by sending their completed application, including CV and any additional supporting materials, directly to the Chair of APSAC by the deadline applications are due in Scholarship Central. Those students will be eligible to receive one of the smaller financial awards sometimes provided through departmental funds, but not the larger monetary award provided by the UND Alumni Association & Foundation. Applications will be evaluated on the merit of the research question, the design of the research plan, and relevancy to both the big picture and potential applied aspects.
  5. Optional: To be considered for the Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award (OGSRA), please upload a complete CV that clearly delineates accomplishments during the previous calendar year and indicates current biology degree program (MS or PhD). A letter of support from the student’s graduate advisor sent to the Chair of APSAC by the deadline applications are due in Scholarship Central is required for a complete OGSRA application. Any graduate student who does not submit their application through Scholarship Central may still be considered for the OGSRA by letter of nomination and any additional supporting materials, including student’s CV with previous calendar year’s accomplishments clearly delineated, sent by the student’s graduate advisor directly to the Chair of APSAC. Those students will be eligible to receive the “award”, but not the monetary portion of the award.
